Lance's 2nd Ever Cross Country Meet ---- brings in a victory and some history for DDS. @ Gaston Christian: Overall 18th; DDS 5th 22.37
DDS Cross Country:
Enclosed are results from our meet yesterday. I couldn’t wait to get these out to everyone since this was a special team effort for our boys, as they won the meet!
As you can see, the boys finished 1st out of 10 schools; our team score (top 5) consisted of Nate McMullen 5th overall, Morgan Scott 8th, Matthew Hines 14th, Jordan Graham 16th, and Lance Fenderson 18th. The remaining two of our top 7 finishers were Lucas James in 27th and Jack Ransom in 32nd.
Coach Cameron and I knew the team score would be close yesterday as we could tell during the race that our top 5 were closely packed near the front third of the pack. Our boys continued to work together through the tough, hilly middle miles, and managed to win the hard-fought battles at the finish line. This total team approach is clearly what sealed the win for DDS.
Back in 2011, my first year at DDS, we had a strong boys team, eventually finishing 2nd overall in the 1A NCISAA State Cross Country Championships. However, after perusing results from those years, I determined that our only wins that year were in small meets with only 2-4 schools. And, to the best of my knowledge, DDS cross country results for the years before 2011 are nonexistent, so this undoubtedly can be celebrated as our first Multi-Team Meet victory in DDS cross country history!
